Project Shakti Saheli — Menstrual & Sanitation Hygiene Drive
Project Shakti Saheli is Apna Shelter India Foundation’s menstrual-health and dignity initiative for adolescent girls and women, particularly in underserved communities where affordability, awareness and social stigma can restrict safe menstrual hygiene.
The project combines access to menstrual-hygiene products with practical awareness and respectful community engagement. Its purpose is not only distribution, but also dignity, knowledge, confidence and healthier menstrual practices.
Core Intervention Areas
- Menstrual Hygiene Support: distribution of approved sanitary products and hygiene essentials based on assessed need.
- Awareness & Education: age-appropriate sessions on menstrual hygiene, safe practices, disposal and personal wellbeing.
- Breaking Stigma: creating respectful spaces where girls and women can discuss menstruation without shame or misinformation.
- School & Community Outreach: programmes in schools, colleges, rural, tribal, slum and community settings through appropriate permissions and partnerships.
- Sanitation Awareness: practical education around hygiene, safe disposal and sanitation practices relevant to menstrual health.
Dignity, Privacy & Safeguarding
Activities should protect beneficiary privacy and dignity. Public reporting should use only appropriate, consented information and should avoid intrusive or stigmatizing representation.
Measurable Impact
Programme reporting may include beneficiaries reached, hygiene products distributed, awareness sessions conducted, institutions or communities covered and documented field updates.
Project Shakti Saheli works toward a future where menstruation never becomes a barrier to health, education, mobility, confidence or dignity.
